Z Gallerie Unveils Exclusive Sugarluxe Collection
I can’t believe it’s been less than 3 years since launching Sugarluxe from my small loft.
Having already outgrown two studios and earning my stripes as a real risk taker (trust me I have the entrepreneurial scar tissue to prove it) – I’ve arrived at a marker in my career that I’ve been dreaming about for years.
This particular dream started when I walked into Z Gallerie.
Over a decade ago, my mom discovered this great home decor store and thought it was the perfect place for me to find things for my first home. By nature, I tend to be pretty eclectic, so she knew I’d love it. The moment I walked in, it was more than love. I was overcome with a feeling, that to this day, I can hardly describe.
I muttered to my mom, “My stuff will be in this store someday.” After all – born July 22nd, I’m on the cusp of Cancer & Leo, which might explain why I thrive on the duality of business and art.
But the feeling, or vision, or whatever it was that day has remained crystal clear.
Now – I know it makes me sound a little crazy; I didn’t have any “stuff” – not a company, a line, a collection or any artwork that I had ever shown to anyone. But come my 25th birthday, my brother Chad gave me an incredible present…an over sized piece of art from Z Gallerie. The piece he purposely chose is significant to me on many levels, but the greatest gift he gave to me that day was clarity.
It was then that I knew I wanted to make art my business. Art that connects. I love abstract work, it’s what I did when I first tried to discover my artistic voice, but it just didn’t strike a personal chord with me. I liked it, I just didn’t identify with it.
But would it be worth it if only a few people could ever buy or see my work? I decided early on that I would make sure it was affordable, accessible, and above all, meaningful to the person whose space it would occupy — just like the unique and beautiful piece from my brother.
From that day forward, I’ve worked relentlessly to unlock the secrets of what it would take to survive and succeed as a modern day artist…and to me, these three recurring thoughts are the foundation of that determination:
- Artists shouldn’t have to die before their work is appreciated.
- Fine Art, Lowbrow, Pop Art, Post-Modern? All that matters is if you like it.
- The joy I derive from my artistic venture will never be dependent on what critics might think.
Since female artists have to make our own way in the world, I will continue to find ways to live my life doing what I love. That includes licensing my work.
Since my goal from the outset was to make fashion forward commercial art defined by a desire for all things cosmopolitan and contemporary…Z Gallerie fit perfectly with my mission.
That’s why I’m thrilled that Z Gallerie just introduced their Exclusive Sugarluxe Collection of art on canvas.
